Rilsan® is a thermoplastic synthetic coating in powder form that is based on castor oil, which is derived from plants. A monomer is obtained from this oil that is processed to produce nylon-11, or Rilsan®. Coating metals with Rilsan® is a cheap and durable alternative to stainless steel. In addition, this coating complies with the Kiwa, DVGW/KTW and WICS Assessment Guidelines, as well as other European directives.
Colours and layer thicknesses
We generally apply Rilsan® by fluidized bed coating [link], but it is also possible to use electrostatic powder coating [link] and rotomoulding [link]. Our standard coating for pipeline systems is RAL 7001 with a layer thickness of approximately 400 μm. Externally, the Rilsan® layer can be finished in any desired RAL colour. Small components can be finished with Rilsan® in white, black and blue as desired. Only a single type is available for coating printing press rollers. This variant was specially developed to have good mechanical and chemical properties and it is also applied by the manufacturer.
